GENSAN: Simply the best place to live

General Santos city, abbreviated G.S.C. or GenSan, was formerly known as Dadiangás. The city was named for General Paulino Santos, who was tasked by President Quezon in 1939 to cultivate the area’s fertile natural resources. It is classified as a highly-urbanized first class city. Cebuano is the main language spoken in General Santos City and the surrounding communities. The people living in the GenSan city are fond of calling themselves "THE GENERALS".

Bounded by white sand beaches, waterfalls, lakes, caves and natural springs, it is a city designed by nature itself. Businessmen and tourists alike love the white sand beaches and pristine waters in Sarangani and the waterfalls, lakes, caves, and natural springs of South Cotabato. The place is teeming with beautiful sights.

General Santos City lies at the southern part of the Philippines. It is the nearest point in the Philippines to Australia. The city is the gateway to the opportunities, sights, sounds and culture of SOCCSKSARGEN region. Backed with world class infrastructure today, GenSan can be reached by air, land, sea or even via the most advanced form of technology from virtually any part of the world. The General Santos International Airport is the largest airport in Mindanao. The ever increasing demand in the volume of both passenger and cargo traffic to and from the city and SOCCSKSARGEN region are currently being serviced by the Philippine Airlines, Airphil Express and Cebu Pacific Air.

Endowed with rich volcanic soil, ample and well distributed rainfall all throughout the year and a typhoon-free climate, General Santos City produces export quality high valued crops such as corn, coconut, pineapple, asparagus, banana and rice. It also yields quality exotic fruits, vegetables and cut flowers.

General Santos City is the shopping capital of the SOCCSKSARGEN region. Residents from nearby towns and provinces visit the city to do shopping and enjoy life and leisure activities. There are several shopping malls in the city; notable ones include the KCC Mall of Gensan, SM City General Santos, Robinsons Place GenSan, Gaisano Mall of GenSan and RD Plaza (Fitmart). The up-and-coming Veranza Mall by KCC Malls is set to open first quarter of year 2013.

The Gen. Santos Fishport is the most modern in the country and is accredited with US FDA and EU FDA Standards and it has just undergone expansion. General Santos City is the largest producer of sashimi-grade tuna in the Philippines. Thus in as early as 1970, the title "Tuna Capital of the Philippines" has become a tag to it.

The rise and popularity of Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire who are both professional boxing champions paved a way for GenSan to be nicknamed as the "home of the champions". Both boxers grew up in Gensan and carry the pride for fighting for the city. Shamcey Supsup, who won as the 3rd Runner-Up for the 2011 Miss Universe Pageant also lives in GenSan as well as the youtube personality and singer, Zendee Rose Tenerefe, who recently appeared in The Ellen DeGeneres show.

I live just 10.5 miles away from the GenSan city and it is in this amazing city where my adventure began...
